SUN Bucks Program returns to help Louisiana families this summer

The Louisiana Department of Health has announced the return of the SUN Bucks program for summer 2026, providing additional grocery assistance to families while school is out.

The program offers a one-time $120 benefit per eligible child, helping offset the loss of school meals during the summer months. Funds are distributed through an EBT card and can be used to purchase groceries at authorized retailers.

Most eligible children will be automatically enrolled, including those who receive benefits such as SNAP, FITAP or certain Medicaid services, as well as students who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. Families who are not automatically enrolled may still apply for the benefit.

Applications will be accepted through August 20, 2026, and benefits must be used within 122 days after they are issued.

State health officials say the program is designed to reduce food insecurity and ensure children continue to have access to nutritious meals even when school is not in session.
