Sheriff’s Office launches investigation following Red River Parish Journal report on Hwy. 71 incidents

An investigation is now underway into reports of vehicles being struck by possible projectiles along U.S. Highway 71 in the Fairview Alpha community, following initial reporting by the Red River Parish Journal that brought the issue to light.

Detectives with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed this week that they are actively investigating the incidents after information and leads surfaced through the Journal’s reporting and subsequent community response.

According to NPSO, deputies and Louisiana State Police troopers were dispatched at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2025, to the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and Louisiana Highway 6 in Clarence after a motorist reported that the passenger-side window of her vehicle shattered while traveling near Key’s Convenience Store in the Fairview Alpha area.

Deputies made contact with the driver, gathered preliminary information, and examined the vehicle for evidence. No injuries were reported. Officers canvassed the surrounding area but were unable to locate suspects at the time. An offense report was completed and forwarded to the NPSO Criminal Investigations Bureau.

The Red River Parish Journal was the first outlet to report on the incident after a social media post from a concerned mother described her daughter’s vehicle being struck while driving along a short stretch of Highway 71 South between Key’s Grocery and Coulee Loop Road. Following the article’s publication, multiple readers came forward with similar accounts, claiming their vehicles were damaged in the same area over the past several months.

Some community members described hearing loud impacts that sounded like rocks or glass striking their vehicles, while one individual alleged a prior incident resulted in minor injury. These reports, while widely discussed online, had not previously been formally reported to law enforcement, according to NPSO.

Sheriff’s officials said that information shared through the Red River Parish Journal has helped identify potential patterns and prompted detectives to expand their inquiry. On Monday, investigators spent much of the afternoon speaking directly with residents in the Fairview Alpha community in an effort to develop additional leads.

To date, NPSO has received one official police report, but detectives are urging anyone who experienced property damage while traveling on U.S. Highway 71 in the Fairview Alpha area within the past month to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-357-7851 or 318-352-6432.

The case remains under investigation and is being handled by Detective Captain Glen Sers and Detective Sergeant Thurman Baptiste of the NPSO Criminal Investigations Bureau.

The Red River Parish Journal will continue to follow the story and provide updates as new information becomes available.
