Flu cases on the rise in Louisiana

As of mid-December 2025, the CDC shows seasonal influenza activity is increasing across most of the U.S., and Louisiana’s epidemic trend was reported as “Growing” around December 9, 2025, indicating rising spread, though overall acute respiratory illness levels were still considered low at that time.

Weekly surveillance data from late November/early December 2025 indicate a surge in Influenza A cases nationwide. Influenza A is noted as the vast majority of positive flu tests in recent weeks, particularly the H1N1 subtype, with a significant increase in positive flu specimens in public health labs.

 While flu was rising, overall acute respiratory illness requiring healthcare was still low as of December 12, 2025, though other viruses like RSV were increasing in the south
