Through Executive Order JML 25-083, signed by Governor Jeff Landry on July 22, 2025, Louisiana has launched the Governor’s Task Force on Public Higher Education Reform, chaired by State Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley.
The 13-member Task Force will lead statewide efforts to protect academic quality, expand choice, and ensure Louisiana’s public colleges and universities answer to the state rather than distant bureaucracies. Its mission includes exploring dual accreditation options, evaluating membership in the Commission for Public Higher Education (CPHE), and developing recommendations to strengthen institutional autonomy and academic excellence. Final recommendations are due January 30, 2026, ahead of the 2026 Regular Legislative Session.
This initiative marks a bold step toward aligning higher education with Louisiana’s values and priorities, strengthening trust in schools, empowering families, and securing a future where education reflects the needs of the state.
Landry added, “”This leadership is strengthening trust in our schools, empowering families, and securing a future where education reflects Louisiana values and priorities.”
