The summer break is quickly coming to a close for Red River Parish Public Schools. According to the approved school calendar, the first day of classes is scheduled for Monday, August 4.

Here’s what families and staff can expect:

Staff Preparation & Student Return

• Professional development days for teachers are set for July 31 & August 1 — these are student-free days dedicated to curriculum planning and training.

• Students will walk into classrooms ready for learning on Monday, August 4, marking the start of a year aligned with the school district’s balanced-calendar model.

Balanced Calendar with Virtual Fridays

Red River Parish continues its innovative approach with a balanced calendar, featuring virtual Fridays. According to district officials, this model supports:

• Reduced learning loss through a more continuous cycle of learning and reducing the time students spend on summer break

• Increased flexibility for remediation and enrichment

• Smoother transitions between semesters

Intersessions & Year-End Schedule

Throughout the school year, students and teachers will take breaks at strategic intervals:

• Fall Intersession: October 4–9

• Winter Intersession: February 9–12

• Spring Intersession: March 30–April 2

• The final day for students is June 16, with staff completing the academic year on June 18, 2026
