The last day for students attending Red River Parish Schools is today, Monday, June 23. Employees will complete two days of professional learning on June 24 and 25 before being released for the summer.

Red River Parish NAACP will hold an interest meeting Tuesday, June 24 at 4pm at Saint Savior Baptist Church in Coushatta.

Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic Learning and Global Education will offer a Pick Up Your Brush painting class on July 3, 10 and 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the second floor of South Hall. The fee is $45. In the class, participants will learn the art of painting using step-by-step instructions to create a masterpiece. Students will take home a completed painting at the end of the class. On July 3, the painting will be titled “Summer Lake Days.” Those in the July 10 class will paint “Longhorn.” On July 17, the painting will be titled “Southern Magnolia.” No special or prior skills are required. Children ages 7 – 12 years old are allowed to enroll, but a parent must accompany the child during the entire class.

The Annual Warren Family Memorial Fireworks Show & Festival will be held in Logansport on the Sabine River Friday, July 4 from 4-10pm. It is a free event with food vendors and a DJ. The firework show begins at dark. 

The Red River Fire Protection District is hosting an Open House Saturday, July 12 from 10am until 2pm at the Central Station, 205 Ringgold Avenue. Everyone is invited to come see what it’s like behind the scenes at the fire station.

The Coushatta-Red River Chamber of Commerce will host another Farmer’s Market Saturday, July 19.

Save Lydia Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, July 26 at Northwestern Hills Golf Course starting at 8am. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, longest drive and closest to the hole. In early 2024, Lydia was diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome, a neurodegenerative disease that is like Alzheimer’s in children. She will lose all the skills she has gained in her short life, suffer seizures and movement disorders, and eventually die in her teens. Currently, there is no FDA-approved treatment or cure.
