With all the rain we’ve had, you may be tempted to turn on your hazard lights while driving.
But did you know it’s against the law in Louisiana to drive with flashing hazard lights in the rain?
Louisiana Law RS 32:327 says flashing lights are prohibited on vehicles except for:
• Authorized emergency vehicles (police, fire, ambulance)
• School buses under certain conditions
• When a vehicle is parked or disabled and constitutes a hazard
It does not permit the use of hazard lights while driving a vehicle during a rain storm or in poor weather conditions.
In fact, hazard lights makes it hard for other drivers to see your brake lights or your turn signals which can lead to accidents.
If the weather is so bad that you feel the need to turn on your flashers, it is safer to pull over in a secure spot and wait it out.
