Carter Credit Union will dedicate their Coushatta branch on Friday. The dedication will honor Gary Elliott, the founder of the first credit union in Coushatta.
Elliot graduated from Northwestern State University and later served in the Army National Guard for 6 years out of the Shreveport unit. He spent the next 27 years working as a comptroller at Sunbeam Corporation in Coushatta and founded CDSC Credit Union for employees. Upon the plant closing, he applied for a federal charter to form a permanent and very successful credit union for the community. He served as CEO of CDSC Federal Credit Union for 22 years and then merged with Carter Federal Credit Union, working until retirement in October 2022.
The dedication is open to the public.
