COUSHATTA – Linebacker Jacob Kellogg was picked to the Louisiana Football Coaches Association’s All-State Second Team for Class 2A after spearheading the efforts of the Red River defense this season.
The Bulldogs held seven opponents to 13 points or less, winning all seven of those games as Red River finished with a 7-5 record and a second-round playoff appearance.

The stout defense stymied all five of its District 3-2A opponents as Red River rolled through district play undefeated, winning the program’s first district title since 2005.

“Kellogg was the leader of our defense, and he set goals for himself week to week and also over the entire season,” said Red River coach Byron Keller of the District 3-2A Defensive MVP. “He’s a hard-nosed, smart linebacker that led the defense to a district championship and playoff run.”

Receiver Jomello McDonald was honorably mentioned on the coaches’ team, earning the Bulldogs their second recognition.

McDonald, who was a force as a receiver and cornerback, was a handful for opponents as a lanky receiver who would often outjump coverage to make catches.

After a 1-4 start, Red River won six straight games, which included a first-round playoff game against district opponent Winnfield.

The Bulldogs beat their district opponents by an average of nearly 32 points per game.
