Walmart & Sam’s Club spark good to change kids’ health at CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System

Walmart and Sam’s Club raises critical donations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

(SHREVEPORT, Louisiana) – Beginning June 10 through July 7, Walmart and Sam’s Club will host the “Spark Good. Change Kids’ Health” fundraising campaign benefiting CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals).

Believing that every child deserves a healthy and happy life, Walmart and Sam’s Club annually partner with CMN Hospitals across the country to raise necessary funds for the little ones in their communities. Their support makes a world of difference for local children’s hospitals, making a positive impact on kids’ health.

During the campaign, as customers and members shop at Walmart or Sam’s Club, you can “Spark Good” for children in your community by donating at the register, online at www.helpkidslivebetter.org or through the Walmart app by rounding up and selecting your local CMN Hospital.

Scottie is the 2024 CMN Hospitals local champion for Shreveport-Bossier. Scottie was born four months early via emergency C-section, weighing only 2pounds. Due to her prematurity, Scottie needed intensive respiratory assistance and several blood transfusions during her stay. Today,

Scottie has defied all odds and is meeting developmental goals with the help of outpatient therapy and her loving and committed family.

Walmart and Sam’s Club associates are at the heart of the campaign, as so many have strong relationships with their local children’s hospitals. Donations made through the campaign directly benefit our local patients and families. Donations support essential medical equipment, life- saving research and family-centered care programs that are all at the core of children’s health.

Through the help of health care professionals and specialized equipment funded by CMN Hospitals, James, Scottie’s grandfather, watched her life be saved in the neonatal intensive care unit.

James is a Walmart associate, can see Scottie’s picture hanging in his store as a reminder of who they are fundraising for. But they can’t do it alone. Each dollar raised locally at Walmart and Sam’s Club helps Shreveport-Bossier provide treatments and support patients desperately need today, so that they can fulfill their potential for tomorrow.

“It is so encouraging to see Walmart associates so passionate to help babies and kids in our community through CMN Hospitals. When I shop, associates stop me and share stories about their own children or grandchildren and how they want to help other families,” said Kelley Matkins, CMN Hospitals program director at CHRISTUS Foundation Shreveport-Bossier. “It’s amazing how fast donations add up when customers round up. Dimes turn into dollars, and those dollars help us buy specialized equipment that can make an enormous difference for our patients and families.”

Since 1987, Walmart and Sam’s Club have proudly partnered with CMN Hospitals, collectively raising over $1 billion to support children’s health care across North America. This year, they aim to build upon this legacy and make an even greater impact on the lives of children in need.

Together, we can change kids’ health. Together, we can change the future – for all of us.
