One arrest made in school bomb threat

(Campti)-A fourteen-year-old juvenile has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat at Fairview Alpha Elementary School according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

This morning, at approximately 10:56am, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau responded to assist a NPSO School Resource Officer with a reported bomb threat at Fairview Alpha Elementary School in the 1400 block of US71/84 in Fairview Alpha, La.

Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #9 and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS were dispatched and staged nearby.

A school resource officer was on campus.

According to the School Resource Officer at least 62-people which included summer school students, teachers and support staff were on campus.

Standard protocol was followed which required a school evacuation.

A thorough search of the school premises by deputies and fireman did not identify any evidence or credible sources of a threat to students and staff.

Deputies spoke with school personnel, and collected information for an offense report.

Detectives assigned to the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division responded to assist in the investigation and gathering of evidence.

During the initial stages of the investigation, detectives gathered information that led them to a person of interest, a student on campus.

The juvenile was transported to the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division.

Detectives say as a result of alert school staff, and investigative techniques, detectives obtained sufficient evidence and probable cause to arrest a 14-year-old juvenile in connection with the bomb threat.

The juvenile was charged with Communication of False Information of a Planned Arson and transported to the Ware Youth Center near Coushatta.

There were no reported injuries.

The Natchitoches Parish School Board was briefed on the incident.
