Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office shared the following:
With a combination of high winds, heavy rains, and saturated ground, storms over the past three days have caused many roadways to be blocked by downed trees, debris, and power lines.
On Friday, May 31, 2024, around 1:00 a.m., off-duty Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office (RRPSO) personnel from various departments, along with agency equipment, were dispatched throughout the parish to assist on-shift deputies, DOTD, and police jury workers in clearing numerous state and parish roadways.
As second and third rounds of storms hit the area around 7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1st and 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2nd, off-duty agency personnel once again worked alongside others late into the night with chainsaws and tractors, helping make roads passable.
As crews continue to clear roadways as of late Monday morning (June 3rd), Red River Parish Glen Edwards would like to thank state and parish agencies, inmate workers, local citizens, RRPSO deputies, and Red River Communications for working together to keep our community safe!
A special thank you goes to the many citizens who stepped in with their own chainsaws to help make our roadways safe for everyone to travel. Your effort is very much appreciated!
