The Riverdale Boys team aims to change its narrative as of late in the final week of the regular season.
The Rebels (7-10, 5-4) have dropped their last three contests, including a 67-64 loss to Union Christian on Tuesday.
Riverdale won the first matchup by 37 points, but Union Christian was missing a few players in the first meeting (illness). Their leading scorer dropped 37 points on Tuesday to lead his team to victory.
The Rebels also fell in a 46-34 decision to Briarfield this past Friday and 62-45 to West Side Christian on Monday.
“The loss to UCA was a tough one for me, there’s no other way to say it than we’re struggling right now,” said Pittman, who also coaches the boys. “We held them in check the first game, but they made ten 3-pointers in the second game.
“I want the boys to show some grit these last few games. They could easily mail it in after some disappointing losses, but they all seem to be positive.”
The boys have an opportunity to rebound against Claiborne Academy on Friday and the Louisiana School on Saturday.
Riverdale could secure third place in the district with a win against Claiborne Academy.
They’ve locked in a spot in the upcoming South 2A Boys Tournament this coming week, which Riverdale is also hosting.
“It’s a big honor to host this tournament,” Pittman said. “Riverdale has never hosted before because they usually like to keep it more centrally located (most members reside in Mississippi). We will need all our fans and students to show up, and we’ll need to win our first-round matchup to advance to the state tournament the following week at Delta Academy.”
