Library Summer Program Kicks Off

A room full of children and their parents and grandparents welcomed the beginning of the Red River Parish Library’s summer reading and entertainment program.  Harvey Rabbit and Friends made an appearance on Wednesday afternoon.

Miss Laura, Mr. Tim, Harvey and all of his friends entertained and educated the youngsters.  There was laughter and fun among a little reading education.  The theme is Tails and Tales and Harvey explained the difference in the two words and two experiences.

Mr. Tim played a great fall guy to Harvey’s hijinks.  Miss Laura seemed to encourage Harvey in his mischief.  Friends dropping by included Cecil the Monkey, T-Boy the Alligator and an old Retired Doctor.

There were songs, lots of dancing, magic tricks, stories, and audience participation.  Harvey repeatedly tricked Mr. Tim into opening a can thinking he would get a treat.  You guessed it; spring loaded snakes jumped from the can every time.

After the show, excited youngsters lined up to shake Harvey’s hand or get a hug from the adorable puppet.

The rest of the month the weekly shows at the library will be on Monday at 2:00 pm.  On July 12 Jacque Fontenot from Red River 4-H will be the featured guest.  Contact Children’s Librarian Kala Sims for more information at 932-5614.
