On Saturday, January 30, Riverdale Academy JV Boys and Girls teams traveled to Tallulah Academy for the 4A District Tournament. The girls played first and took on a tough Franklin Academy team. They fell just short of making it to the championship game by losing their final game of the season by a score of 40-37. 7th grader Mary Claire Jones had the hot hands on offense, scoring 19 points. She also had 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Emily Cason added 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 blocked shot. Georgia Carlisle added 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Madison Chamberlin added 2 points and was high rebounder with 13 boards. She also had 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Jadyn King added 2 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Makayla Pickett rounded out the scoring with 2 points. She also had 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot. The JV Girls had a wonderful season and made the Riverdale fans very proud!
In boys semifinal action, the Riverdale JV boys defeated the PVA Spartans by a score of 41-21. Not only did all of the boys see playing time in the game-they all also put points up on the board. Ryder Huddleston led his team in points with 11. He also had 8 rebounds, 6 steals, and 2 assists. Kyle Guillory joined him in double figures with 10 points. Kyle also had 8 steals, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Hayden Hillman had 6 points and was leading rebounder with 11 boards. Hillman also had 3 steals and an assist. Tanner Carlisle had 4 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal. Aston Hester, Ashton Almond, Shea Nettles, and Logan Gryder added 2 points each. Colton Caskey and Will Jones each added a free throw.
In the boys final game, Riverdale went up against a tough and well disciplined Franklin Academy team. The boys played hard right up to the end, but they came up short 42-39 and took 2nd place in the tournament. Kyle Guillory led all scorers with 22 points. He also had 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Will Jones was hot on the 3 point line, draining 3 3-point shots for 9 points. He also had 2 rebounds and an assist. Ryder Huddleston added 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Aston Hester had 2 points and 1 steal. Hayden Hillman pulled down 7 rebounds and had a steal.
Congratulations to the JV Rebels and Lady Rebels on a great basketball season. We are all proud of both teams!
