January first was a chilly, windy day for the swearing in of Luke Mitchell as District Judge of the 39th district. But the chill in the air (48 degrees) did not deter Mitchell and Clerk of Court Stuart Shaw from performing the ceremony.
The participants, family members and friends gathered on the front porch of the parish Courthouse for the brief ceremony. At 1:00 pm, Mitchell raised his right hand and Shaw administered the oath of office. Then everyone gathered to take photos.
Mitchell was unopposed last fall in the Judge’s election. He replaced long time Judge Louis Sams who did not seek another term. In recent months Mitchell closed out his private law practice in Coushatta in preparation for taking over as District Judge.
