On Monday November 30, Riverdale Academy played UCA at home. The JV girls and boys teams both beat their opponents with the final score of each game being 43-5. The varsity boys and girls games were more of a competition, with both of those games going into overtime. The Lady Rebels and Rebels both managed to pull out the OT win.
In the girls game, junior Kenley Loftin was a huge asset to her team by having a double-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 assist. 7th grader Mary Claire Jones subbed into the game late in the first quarter and had an impressive 12 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist for the night. Junior Renee Prosperie was also a huge defensive asset off the bench as she guarded UCA’s post player. In addition, Renee had 6 points and 7 rebounds. After overtime, the score of the game was 51- 48, in favor of the Lady Rebels.
In the boys game senior Parker Almond let the team with 20 points. Parker also had 8 rebounds and one assist. Junior guard Ty Jones had 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Senior Paul Messenger subbed in and had 11 points 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Junior Caden Long was one point off both ways from having a double-double. Caden had 9 points and 9 rebounds, along with 1 assist. After overtime, the final score of the game was 60-57 in favor of the Rebels.
Riverdale traveled to Riverfield on Saturday, December 5, to take on the Raiders. The girls had an easy win, with each substitute seeing playing time in the game. The final score was 52-12 in favor of the Lady Rebels. Junior Rylee Kate Woodard led her team by having a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists. Senior Ronda Black added 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Junior Kenley Loftin rounded out the double figure scoring with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Sophomore Jessie Kate Cobb hit the boards hard bringing down 10 rebounds in the game and also added 2 points.
The boys game proved to be another nail-biter as the Rebels won this one 66-61, once again in overtime. Junior guard Ty Jones came out cold the first half and only scored 2 points, but he made up for it after halftime, he had 23 2nd half points for a total of 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Parker Almond chipped in 18 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and had 1 assist. Caden Long rounded out the double figure scoring with 16 points, while adding 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Denver Williams hit the boards hard for the Rebels, pulling down 10 rebounds and adding 4 points.
The Rebels enter Tuesday’s games with Glenbrook 2-0, and the Lady Rebels enter with a record of 8-0, after a thrilling 44-34 overtime victory at Claiborne Monday night. Come out and support your Rebel basketball teams or listen to live coverage on Journal Sports. Go Rebels!
