Fire Chief Shane Felts told the Fire Department’s board that some of the things they do are just as important as fighting fires. At the monthly board meeting, Felts reported that that week they provided a crew of divers and a rescue boat just in case.
Felts explained that Cleco was replacing the big red cones on their power lines. The utility does it from a helicopter. The Fire Department was asked to provide rescue divers and a boat to patrol under the replacement activity. Quick action would be needed in the event the workers replacing the cones were to have a problem and fall into the river.
Those cones are obstruction markers so that people can see the power lines. Felts said the replacements over the river would take about five days.
