High temperatures today in the mid 90s with heat index values forecast to approach 105 degrees. Otherwise, there is a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms across portions of north Louisiana and deep east Texas.

More of the same overnight tonight, as skies clear and temperatures fall into the mid 70s.

There is a low (20%) chance of tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico over the next 5 days. Regardless of development, heavier rainfall could be a concern later this week. We are in hurricane season, so now is a good time to review your hurricane plans.

The Weather Service has issued precautions for dealing with the heat including stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you must be out in the heat.  See the graphic below.
