There was a place to beat the heat, the Pentecostal church in Martin. The church invited the community to a play day last Saturday. People filled the church yard and scrambled up the inflatable water challenges.
Although it was mainly for the kids, The Journal observed some adults getting wet alongside their children. One said they were just helping keep things orderly. But they did enjoy the water. So did anyone sitting at the bottom of the slides or walking a bit too close.
You can see in the photos that the children had a great time.
Some families brought several generations. We met Great-Grandpaw Floyd Jordan and his Great-Grandson Lyle Ford.
Larry Sales is the pastor and a great hot dog griller. Sales said, “I like them just a little bit crispy.” There were no complaints as the food was served.
Sales showed us around, including preparations for a puppet show for the kids last Sunday. There was a large pile of backpacks and school supplies. Sales said they wanted to make sure children in the community had everything they needed to start school.
The Pentecostals of Martin also invited everyone to worship with them during their revival August 10th through 12th. Evangelist Roger Herrington will be there. He will also bring the message every Wednesday during the month of August.
