The new look to Coushatta’s Front Street is almost complete. The Mayor says there are a few things to finish up. However merchants say it is great!
Last Saturday had been publicized as the day to finish the refurbishing, however everything was not quite ready. Mayor Johnny Cox told The Journal, “This was a bigger project than we first thought, but we will get it all done.” Cox added, “We have some more finishing touches to complete.”
On Saturday morning baskets of ferns and flowers were mounted on the freshly stained wooden columns. The columns were installed late last year. The buildings have all been painted and the overhanging roof has been refurbished.
Song Coffey of Song’s Beauty Supply called it “A Wonderful job. I really appreciate it. It improves the looks of Front Street. A few doors down Roushanda Lewis at Elite Styles was helping ladies look their best for the weekend. Lewis said she is “flabbergasted. It’s a blessing. I love it.” Lewis was appreciative of the flowering baskets around her shop. “I’ll water them and I won’t let them die,” she added.
Merchants on Front Street are Advantage Home Health, Song’s Beauty Supply, Jolie 1818, Elite Styles Beauty and Barber Shops, the Council on Aging, and St. John Baptist Church. There are several vacancies ready for more businesses to move in, including the old LP Stevens Store which is owned by the town.
