ETC… for January 5th



After nearly a week of sub-freezing temperatures it is warming up. The forecast for the weekend calls for cold nights and cool days. The cold snap is actually beneficial. It helps curb the bug and mosquito population. And it lets us know how great warm weather feels.

If you have children 4 years through 6th grade, it is time for the winter basketball program at First Baptist Church. Registration is happening on line and the last day to register is Monday, January 8th. Dr. Nathan Davis said, “there were about 125 children who took part in the basketball program last year. I hope we get even more this year.”

Spring local elections are coming all across the state. A check with the Red River Registrar shows there are no local elections scheduled for red River Parish until the fall.

Riverdale Academy’s new gym floor is almost complete. Their Facebook post promises more details soon. However, Riverdale posted “Friday’s games against Tensas have been rescheduled. We will play at Tensas January 15. We will play them at home on January 30.”

The Red River High Girls play at home Saturday night against Minden High. Journal Sports is planning to broadcast that game live. You may listen to it by going to and Click on the team logo. The stream is up a few minutes before the broadcast begins.
