The Red River High School Soccer team did something that has not been accomplished in quite some time. The team won a game on Monday night.
Soccer is not well known in Red River Parish as in other parts of the state. However there is always an enthusiastic bunch of boys and girls eager to play every year. They enjoy the trips to games and tournaments, the stops at fast food restaurants, and the friendships formed.
On Monday night they enjoyed their first win since 2012. The drought ended with a 4 to 1 victory over North Caddo High School from Vivian. To make the victory even better, it was a district win.
The excitement began earlier in the season when they scored a goal. And last Friday night the Bulldogs scored first on rival Calvary Baptist Academy and held them at 1-0 until half time. Calvary won 2-1 but did not score the winning goal until there was only 2 minutes left in the match.
The crowd was small Monday because of the threat of rain. But the Bulldogs scored first then held North Caddo to one goal in the match. And they did it in front of Athletic Director Billy Henry, Principal J. C. Dickey and Assistant Principal Tiffany Roque.
Parents brought ice cream cones to the field after the game. And Tuesday morning principal Dickey brought hot glazed and chocolate donuts to school to treat the team.
Bulldog soccer fans enjoy the moment. This really could be the soccer team’s year.
