Early Voting Begins Today

This is the first day to vote early for the November 18th general election. Early voting dates are Friday, November 3rd through Saturday, November 11th. There will be no early voting on Friday November 10th due to the observance of Veterans Day.

On the ballot locally there are three tax propositions and the Treasurer runoff. People living in the town of Coushatta will vote on the renewal of current property taxes. Those issues have to be renewed every 10 years. The school board and police jury had their renewals on the ballot in October. Also on the ballot is the runoff for State Treasurer. If you live outside Coushatta, you will only have the Treasurer race on your ballot.

Turnout for the October 14th was very light in the parish and across Louisiana. Red River Registrar of Voters, Mary Jones told the Journal, “The turnout will be very, very, very light. That is due to just a few issues on the ballot.” Despite an expected small participation, Jones said, “We’ll be here until 6 O’clock every day for folks who want to vote early”

To vote locally, go to the Registrar of Voters office in the courthouse. They are open 8:30 am until 6:00 pm nightly on early voting dates.
