Today (September 8th) is “Shoo the Flu” at the Council on Aging on Front Street. Flu shots will be offered from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm. Medicaid, Medicare and Insurance will be accepted for payment.

Monday is distribution day for the Food for Seniors program. Boxes will be distributed from 8:30 am to 11:00 pm for those who have signed up for the program. Eligible senior citizens can sign up or get more info at the council office. Call 318-932-5721. Sign-up is open year around.

All friends, alumni and supporters of Northwestern State University are invited to join in the events next week that will celebrate the investiture of Dr. Chris Maggio as the university’s 19th president. On Monday, Sept. 11th at 7:45 a.m. there will be a Patriot Day Observation. The ceremony will take place at the flagpoles in the heart of campus between the Long Student Services Center and Caspari Hall. Flags will be lowered to half-staff at 8 a.m. followed by a moment of silence and the playing of the National Anthem.

Both Red River and Riverdale football teams are in action tonight. Red River is at home vs Arcadia. Riverdale Academy is at home vs CCA.

Saturday is the big Rebel Fest. It will be held at Riverdale Academy. This is a free event and the whole family is invited. There will be contests, raffles and other fun events with many large prizes offered. See Wednesday’s Journal for more details.
