The state Department of Children & Family Services is urging Louisiana residents to prepare for hurricane season, which is just beginning. You can pre-register online for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) benefits.
In the last issue the Journal reported that the local DCFS office was helping clients with replacement of their normal SNAP benefits that were lost due to the recent storm. And that applications for the DSNAP was not being taken at that time.
Now the state office says get your application in ahead of any potential problem that could arise during hurricane season. DCSF Secretary Marketa Garner Walters said, “Spending a little time pre-registering now will save you time later, when gathering the required income information may be more difficult and you have other things to worry about.”
