This is a busy week. Tonight First United Methodist Church is holding an Ash Wednesday service to mark the beginning of Lent. The service begins at 6 pm on Wednesday March first.

This week’s Journal had stories on signing up for Pre-K and Head Start. Those registrations end Friday. Also ending Friday is registration for Tee Ball and Coach Pitch. See the individual stories for details.

The bridge over a creek on Highway 507 in the Womack area remains closed. Emergency deck repairs are underway. State DOTD has not posted a estimated date for the work to be completed.

In area basketball, the Red River High girls were eliminated from the state playoffs. They had a great season, however they ran into a very good Rayville team on Thursday night to end their 2016-17 season.

The Red River High boys were victorious Friday night against Mentorship Academy. They played at Ferriday last night.

Riverdale Academy’s Boys won their Class A tournament last weekend. The Girls were defeated in the finals and came in second in the Class A tournament.

Both teams have moved on to the Overall Tournament of MISA schools. The Lady Rebels lost their first game on Tuesday. Final was Oak Forest Academy 55 to 36.
In the boys Overall Tournament, Riverdale boys play Jackson Academy today (Wednesday) at 2 pm.
