Three Riverdale Academy students were recently selected to attend NSU: Healthcare Career Exploration Day. On Tuesday, March 7, Riverdale Academy senior Molly Seales and juniors Madison Chamberlin and Kylie Donald participated in Bayou North’s Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Day at Northwestern State University. The application was open to juniors and seniors who are pursing an interest in the healthcare field. AHECs are federally funded non-profit organizations founded in 1972. One of the goals of the program is to support practicing professionals with continuing education programs and other support resources to attract youth to health care professions.
Participants were able to explore eight allied health programs/degrees offered at NSU, including biology, radiology, social work, CPR, and four others. They were able to explore different areas of the healthcare field. Meals were provided and attendees received an official “AHEC Day @NSU” t-shirt and certificate of participation.
Molly, Madison, and Kylie enjoyed the day exploring healthcare fields and meeting new people who are interested in healthcare as well. Thanks to NSU and BNAHEC for providing this opportunity to students in north Louisiana.
