Riverdale Gets Two Big District Wins Over Rival Briarfield

Thursday, February 2nd, players and fans got to celebrate big district wins over one of their main rivals, Briarfield Academy. In the first game of the evening, Riverdale JV girls defeated Briarfield 36-27. Makayla Pickett had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also led the team in deflections with four. Charity Williamson had 7 points, and Hanna Catherine Huddleston added 4 points. Mary Claire Jones had 5 points and led the team in assists with 4 and in steals with 3. Ally Kate Hillman had 4 points, Kaleigh Pickett had 3 points, and Kynnedi Taylor rounded out the scoring with a free throw. Briarfield JV boys defeated the JV Rebels 30-21. Tanner Carlisle had 8 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots. Ashton Almond had 5 points and led the team in steals with 4 and deflections with 5. Jackson Hillman had 2 points and Cannon Breedlove added a free throw.

In varsity action, the Lady Rebels defeated Briarfield 54-24. Mary Claire Jones had 19 points and led the team in assists with 5 and steals with 2. Jessie Kate Cobb added 14 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, and had 5 deflections. Makayla Pickett had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 deflections. Madison Chamberlin added 6 points and led the team in rebounds with 11 and deflections with 7. Jadyn King added 3 points, and Hanna Catherine Huddleston chipped in 2 points. The varsity boys’ game was back and forth, but the Rebels came out on top of Briarfield 63-58.  Ryder Huddleston had a fabulous night with a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds. Mason Murray had 17 points, and Jace Wilhite was also in double figures with 10 points. Ben Almond had 12 points and led the team in assists with 6, steals with 2, and deflections with 4. Thad Bates had 6 points and pulled down 11 boards, while Kyle Guillory added 4 points.

The Rebels will take on Tensas on Tuesday, February 7, as they celebrate senior night for basketball players and cheerleaders. Keep up the good work!
