
The local VFW Post and Auxiliary have presented the winners of the Americanism Competition with their awards. Students at Red River Academic Academy entered the patriotic competition earlier in the school year.
Winners in the Contest to draw a patriotic scene were Connor Dubois, Corneius Christor and Mackynzie Smith. Dubois also was selected as the top entry in that category of all entries submitted to the post.
Winners in the patriotic essay competition for 5th graders were Trinity Dowlen, Aubryiel Allen and Ja’Niyah Horton.
And in the Patriot’s Pen essay contest, Lillie Harlow won first place, Jacarvis Speed got second and Carson Roy Ezernack was third.
The Americanism Competition is a nationwide program of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to promote patriotic education among youth in grades K through 12. It is presented locally by VFW Post and Auxiliary 7287.
