VFW Students of the Month

The public school Students of the Month were recognized at the November meeting of the Red River Parish School Board.  Superintendent Alison Strong read each student’s nomination, VFW Auxiliary District President Dawn Brewer presented each with a certificate, and Kerlinda Ramirez of the Chevron Convenience Store presented them with a gift card.

The Student of the Month from Red River Elementary is Cosim Edwards.

Mrs. Korn’s nomination read, “Cosim is a fantastic first grade student. He is hard working and is always sweet to his peers and teachers. Cosim is willing to lend a helping hand at any time to anyone. He does his work in a timely manner and participates in class. Cosim is an excellent helper and loves to assist me throughout the day. He is a joy to teach and have in my class.”

Kaiden Humphrey was the student chosen from Red River Academic Academy.  His nomination statement read, “It was the very first assignment of the year that let me know that Kaiden was here for a purpose. He was going to earn his keep in fourth grade. He hasn’t disappointed me since then. He is the only student in team fields history to make the behavior hall of fame 3 times, and it’s not even mid-term yet! He gives 100% every day on every assignment, and that includes pe. He sets an outstanding example of what it truly means to be awesome. He encourages his classmates to always be the better person, plus he inspires me to continue working hard even when i want to give up. Kaiden not only wants to know what the right answer is; he wants to know what he did wrong so he can learn from his mistakes, and he does just that. He increased his reading score by 40% then immediately set himself a new goal of 20% higher.  He is truly making the world a better place.”

Red River Junior High nominated Mykhail Cox.  “He is always willing to lend a hand to other students.  He exemplifies a positive attitude both in and out of the classroom.  In the classroom, he participates in discussions and displays potential for great leadership. Every day, his teachers look forward to his joyful demeanor. Cox was nominated by Mrs. Brunson.

And the High School Student of the Month is Aaron Simmons.  Aaron was nominated by Mr. Strong.  The statement read, “He possesses a thirst for knowledge and desire to master any skill he is asked to learn. He is always the first student dressed in and ready to learn every morning. He works well individually or in a group, and always does his best to complete the assigned tasks. Aaron is responsible and a team player. He keeps a smile on his face and encourages others to do their best. He is an asset in every way possible to the RRHS welding program.

Each month students in public and private schools in the parish are recognized for their outstanding achievements by Coushatta VFW Post and Auxiliary 7287.  For more information on the Student of the Month program or any other services that may be needed by veterans, call the Post at 318-932-6557.
