Local veterans who have passed on were honored last Friday, Veterans Day, with American flags placed on their graves at Springville Cemetery. Later in the day all veterans were honored with a new US Flag and POW Flag placed on the flagpole at the climate controlled storage facility on US 71 south.
Friday began early for VFW and JROTC members. They mustered early in uniform to travel from the high school to Springville Cemetery. There flags were placed on the graves of veterans who have passed on from this life. Most of the flags were provided by John Paul and Ace Hardware.
After placing flags on as many gravestones as they could find, the JROTC cadets mounted up the big yellow school bus for the trip down US 71 to the climate controlled storage units. There the big American flag maintained by the local VFW Post was lowered and folded for later disposal.
A new, larger US Flag was raised to the top of the pole, then lowered to half-staff in honor of Veterans Day. The flag was honored by the JROTC Cadets and leaders and members of the VFW Post and Auxiliary. At the end of the day it was raised to the top of the pole.
