This summer, Riverdale Academy incoming 7th grader Jackson Hillman competed in the Front 9 Tour and played in several golf tournaments across the area, which culminated with the Hayden Hough Junior Memorial Front 9 Tour on July 25-26 at Stonebridge Golf Club. The Front 9 Tour is founded on Christian principles with a mission to further God’s kingdom through the game of golf. The seven life essentials that the game of golf teaches are honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, determination, perseverance, character, and commitment. The Front 9 Tour emphasizes these in a five minute “life truth” lesson before each tournament, along with a prayer.
The invitational is named for Hayden Hough, who was a Front 9 Tour member who lost his life in 2012 in a tragic automobile accident. The Tour set up the Hayden Hough Scholarship fund in his honor, and proceeds go to a college scholarship to be awarded to a former member of the Front 9 Tour. This award is presented at the Hayden Hough Junior Memorial each year. In addition, the Front 9 Tour believes that every child should have an opportunity for a higher education and supports this belief with college scholarships. So far, Front 9 has given out over $70,000 in scholarships to young golfers.
After playing in tournaments all summer, Hillman’s scores qualified him for a spot in the Hayden Hough Invitational. Not only did he get to play in this prestigious tournament against the best players in the area, but he walked away with 3rdplace in the 10-12 year age division. Jackson puts in lots of work and can often be found practicing right by himself at the Coushatta Country Club. As a 6th grader last year, Hillman was a member of the Riverdale Academy State Championship Golf Team. Jackson in the son of Brandon and Kayla Hillman of Martin, LA. Congratulations Jackson!
