The Red River Parish Police Jury is renewing their support of the LSU Ag Center and 4-H programs in the parish. At the June meeting the police jury voted to give the Ag Center $8,500 for the coming year. That is the amount the police jury has contributed annually for the past several years.
Ag Extension Agent Randall Mallette and 4-H Agent Jacque Fontenot went before the jury to make the request. Fontenot also briefed jurors on the scope of the 4-H program in the parish.
She said there are 240 members and there is a 4-H club in every school. Twenty-four members will go to camp in July. Fifteen students will attend 4-H University on the LSU Baton Rouge campus in July. There are 30 students are involved in shooting sports and 10 in 4-H livestock.
Fontenot summed it up, “We have workshops going during the summer. We’re keeping busy and always have something going on.”
