Riverdale JV Girls and Boys Both Win District Tournament

On Saturday, February 5, the Riverdale Academy JV girls and boys travelled to Briarfield Academy to play in the district tournament. After an easy semi-final win over UCA with a score of 31-7, the Lady Rebels faced much harder competition against Briarfield in the championship game. With the scored deadlocked 13-13 at halftime, the Lady Rebels knew it was time to step up. They had an outstanding second half and game away with a 38-26 win to bring the blue trophy home to East Point. In the UCA game, Makayla Pickett led the team in scoring with 11 points. She also had 6 rebounds, 3 deflections, and a steal. Hanna Catherine Huddleston had 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and led the team in deflections with 6. Haylee Smith added 4 points and led the team in rebounding with 8 boards. She also had 3 steals and a deflection. Jadyn King added 3 points, 4 rebounds, 5 deflections, and led the team in steals and assists with 4 of each. Charity Williamson had 2 points, led the team in deflections with 6, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Chloe Jordan had 2 points, 5 deflections, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist while Gracie Stephens added 2 points, 2 steals, a rebound, and a deflection. In the championship game, Makayla Pickett again led the team in scoring with 13 points. She also had 9 rebounds, a team-high 6 deflections, and 5 steals. Haylee Smith added 8 points and had a team-high 12 rebounds. She also had 5 deflections and a team high 4 steals. Hanna Catherine Huddleston had 7 points, a team high 6 deflections, a team high 4 steals, and 2 rebounds. Mary Claire Jones came in and played the 2nd half. She had 7 points, a team-high 3 assists, 3 deflections, 2 steals, and 1 rebound. Jadyn King added 3 points, a team high 4 steals, a team high 3 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 deflections.

In the JV boys’ semi-final game, the Rebels came out with a hard-fought 25-20 win over host team Briarfield. Tanner Carlisle led the team in scoring with 12 points. He also led the team in steals and deflections, with 6 of each. Carlisle also pulled down 6 rebounds and had an assist. Aston Hester added 7 points, a team high 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 deflections. Logan Gryder had 4 points, a team high 11 rebounds, a deflection, and a steal. Ashton Almond had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 deflections. In the championship game, the Rebels defeated Tallulah 28-14 to bring another blue trophy home to East Point. In his last ever JV game, Aston Hester stepped up big for his team. He led in scoring with 14 points and also had 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and a deflection. He didn’t score, but Logan Gryder was huge on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds and having 4 deflections. Tanner Carlisle added 5 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 deflections, and an assist, while Ashton Almond also added 5 points, 4 steals, 2 rebounds 2 assists, and 2 deflections. Colton Caskey had 4 points, 5 deflections, and 3 rebounds.
