On Tuesday, January 4, the Riverdale Rebels traveled to Union Christian Academy in Farmerville for their first games of 2022. In JV girls’ action, the JV Lady Rebels defeated UCA 42-8 with all girls seeing playing time. Point guard Hanna Catherine Huddleston led all scorers with 12 points, along with 5 deflections, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Gracie Stephens joined her in double figures with 11 points. Haylee Smith added 8 points and was leading rebounder with 4 boards. Jadyn King led in assists and deflections, with 6 of each. King also led the team in steals with 4, while chipping in 4 points. In JV boys’ action, the Rebels defeated UCA 36-18 with all boys seeing playing time. Logan Gryder led the team in scoring with 15 points and in rebounding with 8 boards. Aston Hester added 9 points and led the team in deflections with 6.
In varsity girls’ action, the Lady Rebels defeated UCA by a score of 39-29. Sky McMullan had an outstanding night with a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 deflections. She also had 5 steals. Mary Claire Jones also had 10 points along with a team high of 6 assists. Jessie Kate Cobb was a rebounding force, pulling down 9 boards, while seniors Rylee Kate Woodard, Kenley Loftin, and Renee Prosperie contributed 7, 6, and 4 points respectively. In varsity boys’ action, the Rebels took a tough 56-50 loss. Ty Jones had 38 of the teams’ points and also led the team with 8 rebounds. Caden Long added 6 points, while Ben Almond chipped in 4 points and Mason Murray scored 2. Almond and Denver Williams each grabbed 7 boards.
On Thursday, January 6, the Rebels traveled to Westside Christian School in El Dorado, Arkansas, where they brought home 3 out of 3 wins. In JV boys’ action, Riverdale defeated Westside 30-19. Tanner Carlisle led in scoring with 8 points and in steals with 7. Logan Gryder and Colton Caskey led the Rebels in rebounding with 7 each, while Gryder added 7 points and Caskey added 4. Ashton Almond led the team in steals with 4 and was solid with 6 points and 6 rebounds.
The varsity girls dominated Westside and won by a score of 42-20. Kenley Loftin was the leading scorer with 13 points. Loftin also had 7 rebounds, 6 deflections, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Sky McMullan had a double-double with 11 points and 10 deflections. She also pulled down 8 boards. Jessie Kate Cobb led the team in rebounds with 13 boards, while also scoring 6 points. Rylee Kate Woodard added 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 deflections.
The varsity boys’ game was a great spectator’s game, with the score going back and forth the whole night. In the end, the Rebels came out on top of Westside 55-53 as junior Ben Almond drove into the lane and sank a shot as time expired on the clock. Just two minutes before, with Westside up 50-47, junior Mason Murray drained a 3-pointer from the baseline to tie it up. Ty Jones led the team in scoring with 18 points, in rebounding with 6 boards, and in deflections with 5. Jones and Reagan Huddleston led the team in assists with 3 each, while Huddleston added 5 points. Caden Long added 14 points, and Denver Williams added 10 points. Each of them had 5 rebounds.
The Rebels have a big week this week as they travel to Tallulah on Monday, January 10. They will be at home on Tuesday against Northeast Baptist and at home on Friday against the Tensas Chiefs. Come out and support your Lady Rebels and your Rebels!
