CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center and the emergency department underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review recently by The Joint Commission. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Advanced Acute Heart Attack Ready program and response throughout the department. The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest independent, not-for-profit standard setting and accrediting organization in health care. Processes and procedures currently in place from the onset of symptoms and first contact with patients were reviewed to assure alignment with The Joint Commission best practices and policies. The CHRISTUS Coushatta Emergency team affirmed to the Joint Commission a commitment to providing advanced life-saving care for heart attack patients. The team was also able to show effective collaboration with emergency medical services, and other involved inpatient units.
“This certification speaks not only to the excellence of our Acute Heart Attack Ready program but also to the incredible teamwork of our Associates and medical staff in the emergency department,” said Brandon Hillman, Administrator, CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center. “With this certification, we are staying true to our commitment to provide advanced treatment for those in our community. When patients come to CHRISTUS Coushatta with a heart emergency, they’re assured to receive the best care for their heart.”
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“We commend CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, Chief Operating Officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and Chief Nursing Executive, The Joint Commission.
