This month recognition of students nominated for Student of the Month from the four public schools returned to the monthly school board meetings. On Monday, September Students of the Month were introduced to the board.
Superintendent Alison Hughes read the nomination statements. From Red River Elementary, Homeroom teacher Mrs. Tucker nominated JEYLIAN ORTIZ-GONZALES.
Jeylian is an amazing student who works hard each and every day. She is dependable – she turns in her completed Friday assignments every Monday, which is remarkable. She doesn’t hesitate to ask questions if she doesn’t understand something, and she participates in class every day. Her calming spirit permits her to be a resource to the students around her. I’ve never known her to say an unkind word about anyone or treat anyone with anything other than kindness.
From Red River Academic Academy, TAE’LOR THOMAS was presented Student of the Month honors. Tae’lor Thomas is a hard worker and does her best to be a good friend to everyone. Tae’lor knows her areas of weakness and she works really hard to get better in those areas every day. She is the type of student that teachers love to have in their classroom. She doesn’t make perfect scores on everything, but she is willing to put in the work to do better each day. Tae’lor has a bright future and I know she is going to do great things in this world.
Seventh grade math teacher Ellie Drew Stockton nominated MORGAN HOUSLEY.
It is my pleasure to have this student come before the board and be recognized for all of her hard work and dedication to the high standards she sets for herself. Her commitment to her studies and education set the example for her peers to set those standards for themselves. I have the privilege of being Morgan’s math teacher. Being able to teach a student such as she was one of the many inspirations I had to become a teacher. Morgan puts in the maximum amount of effort towards her education in the classroom and at home. She exceeds the rigorous standards I set for all my students. Morgan never settles for anything less than her very best in everything she applies herself to. I wish her all the best in all her many academic years to come.
And the Student of the Month from Red River High School is MARQUASHA THOMAS. Her nomination was by Coach Kimberly Burton.
I am very pleased to recognize this student for all of the hard work and dedication that she has put forth during the school year. Marquasha is a star student who takes care of her business in the classroom, sets high expectations for herself, and also encourages her classmates to do the same. This is my first year teaching and she has quickly become one of my favorite students because of her work ethic and her determination to receive good grades. I see a bright future ahead of her and I know that someday she will make a difference. I wish her the best of luck throughout high school and hope that she continues to be great!
Each month during the school year, Coushatta VFW Post and Auxiliary 7287 recognize the Students of the Month. Each is presented a certificate and gift card to Dairy Queen.
