Under the “Thursday Night Lights” and a huge downpour, the Riverdale Rebel football team put up an impressive 49 points against the Franklin Cougars in the first half, which resulted in the game being called off at halftime. Franklin is a young team and had several injuries, so both coaches agreed to call the game, which resulted in a 49-0 Riverdale victory.
Riverdale offense had 138 total yards for 6 touchdowns. Sophomore Kyle Guillory blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown, and junior Ty “Bones” Jones was 5 for 6 in kicking the extra point. Sophomore quarterback Ryder Huddleston was 3 for 3 in passing for 37 yards. He hit senior Monroe McCarty for 11 yards, His other target was Jones, who had 2 receptions for 26 yards. Senior Jake Messenger had 7 carries for 71 yards and 3 touchdowns. In addition to the punt block touchdown, Guillory added another 2-yard touchdown. McCarty had 3 carries for 28 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Riverdale defense stifled the Franklin offense, holding them to 2 for 9 in passing with a loss of 5 yards and 2 interceptions for 40 yards. They had 12 rushing attempts for a loss of 24 yards and 1 fumble. Jones had 3 solo tackles, 2 assists (3 TFL), 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. Messenger had 1 solo tackle and 2 assists (1 TFL.) McCarty had 2 solo tackles, 1 assist (2 TFL), and 1 PBU. Huddleston had 1 solo tackle and 3 assists (3 TFL.) Guillory had 1 solo tackle, 3 assists (3 TFL), and 1 blocked punt. Junior Ben Almond had 1 solo tackle, 2 interceptions for 40 yards and 1 PBU, while his brother, 8th grader Ashton Almond, had a solo tackle. Junior Tyler Parker had a solo tackle, while freshman Aston Hester and senior Denver Williams had 1 assist each. Sophomore Hayden Hillman had 3 assists (1 TFL.)
The Rebels will travel to Homer, LA, this Friday, October 8th, to take on the Claiborne Academy Rebels. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. Come out and support your RIVERDALE Rebels!
