Moonlight and Mason Jars

By Molly Seales

On Saturday, April 3, the 9th-12th grade students of Riverdale Academy and their dates gathered at “My Three Weddings” venue in Coushatta for their prom, which had the theme “Moonlight and Mason Jars.” The junior class, under the direction of sponsor Mrs. Kelly Azlin, hosted the prom as they do each year.  Last year’s prom was unfortunately cancelled due to Covid 19, so the students were very grateful to be able to have the dance this year.

As part of Riverdale tradition, the high school beauties and beaus were presented before the prom began. This year’s “Most Handsome” was Witt Almond, who was escorted by his mother, Dawn Almond.  “Most Handsome Runner-up” was Paul Messenger, who was escorted by his mother, Ashlie Messenger.  Other beaus were Parker Almond, who was escorted by his mother Heather Almond; Brennan Edie, who was escorted by his mother, Kelly Azlin; Noah Wren, who was escorted by his mother Heather Wren; and Austin Giddens, who was escorted by his grandmother, Trisha Giddens.  This year’s “Most Beautiful” was Tinley Ogden, who was escorted by her brother, Trevyn Odgen. “Most Beautiful Runner-up” was Tylee Adams, who was escorted by her father, Tye Adams.  Other beauties were Ronda Black, who was escorted by Winn Almond; Pacey Lindsey, who was escorted by her father, John Lindsey; Abby Jones, who was escorted by her father, David Jones; and Kenley Loftin, who was escorted by her father, Shaun Loftin.

Mr. Robert Fredrick was on hand to take pictures of individuals and couples, as well as take class group pictures.  Riverdale alumnus Steven Bryant was the DJ for the night. All of the students who were present at the prom voted on a senior girl and a senior boy to be prom king and queen.  This year’s prom king was Jake Wilhite and prom queen was Abby Jones. Prom souvenirs were mason jars with each students’ name written on them.  It was a wonderful evening for all who attended.
