ETC… For Wednesday, April 7th

There is a blood drive scheduled at Red River High on April 8th. The challenge is to set a new record of number of units collected. The school said, “Everyone in Red River can help us out.  Let’s sign up, show up, and dump ice on Col. and Mr. Dickey.”  If a new record is set, the brass gets an ice bath.

The Red River Waterway Commission reported last week that all boat launches on the Red River are now open.  Several had been closed due to high water levels.

The Northwestern State University Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta welcomed 170 new members at the annual induction ceremony held recently at the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. Professor of Computer Information Systems Dr. Begoña Perez-Mira was keynote speaker and honorary faculty inductee. Northwestern State President Dr. Chris Maggio and Vice President for the Student Experience and Dean of Students Frances Conine assisted with the presentation.  Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes the best and brightest members of the nation’s first-year college students.  Students in Alpha Lambda Delta must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 after their first semester of full-time enrollment at Northwestern State. 

Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) has partnered with The National Theatre for Children (NTC) to educate students and their families about electrical safety with a new livestream program called “Captain Wattage.”  The superhero-themed livestream performance is available for grades K-5 in SWEPCO’s three-state service territory. Students will learn about how electricity is made, the uses of electricity, how to identify dangerous electrical situations, and ways to stay safe around electricity.
