This past week, Clara Springs Camp and Conference, welcomed several groups of students from the area to come and hold their Easter festivities on our grounds. What a joy it was to see so many young kids exit the school busses ready for a day of fun and excitement. During their time at the camp, the students were able to play games, create a rhythm egg and learn a song, watch an Easter Veggie Tales movie, eat lunch, and take pictures with the Easter Bunny. Even with all that excitement and fun, the young kids still had one thing to do that they had anticipated all day. They wanted to hunt for Eggs!
The crazy thing is that it was the very eggs they had brought with them on the busses. These were the eggs that the students themselves had decorated and brought from their home. But even still, they wanted to hunt for Easter Eggs. So, the students giggling and lined in a row on the top of our hill, waited with anticipation for us to start the hunt. As we yelled GO, the students dashed down the hill laughing all the way. Shouts of joy could be heard as an Egg was found. That is when I noticed a funny little thing. As the eggs were picked up, they were not immediately thrown into the basket. For a brief second, each child would lock their eyes on the egg in their hand and with that brief glance you can almost hear them say “I Love you”. Then the Egg was quickly and gently tucked away in their basket and the search was on again.
So many lessons could be taught from this Easter Egg hunt, but I would like to leave you with just two of them today. 1. God desires to find you! You are not geographically lost to God; you are spiritually lost. The sin that we commit causes us to be separated from God. Thankfully, there is a way to restore our relationship with God. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son so that whosoever believeth in him might be saved”. To be found by God, you must repent of your sins, believe that Christ died on the Cross for you, and ask Jesus to come into your heart. 2. Just like the shouts that are heard when a child finds an egg, joy is heard throughout Heaven when someone who was lost, is found! The Bible says in Luke 15:7 “In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!”. Can you just imagine the joy and excitement that is felt in Heaven when someone that was lost is found? Have you ever made Heaven shout for Joy? If not, why not today?
