United Way Adopts Red River Head Start

United Way of Northwest Louisiana has adopted a local head start program in each of the 10 parishes they serve.  Locally they adopted Red River Head Start which is run by the school board.

To kick it off, United Way donated a set of books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Red River Head Start.

A news release from United Way said, “The partnership is being established to provide quality early education to preschool children from low-income families is key to United Way’s commitment to early childhood literacy.  In Northwest Louisiana 52% of children enter kindergarten unprepared.  Due to the effects COVID-19 has had on local educational systems, our community is bracing for this number to increase.  By adopting Red River Head Start, United Way hopes to provide additional resources to enhance fundamental building blocks and keep children on track for kindergarten.”

Similar adoptions were made by United Way in each of the 10 parishes they serve.
