Riverdale Lady Rebels Bring Home South A Championship Trophy

On Tuesday, February 9, the Riverdale Lady Rebels traveled to Tallulah Academy for their first game of the South A Tournament.  Their first opponent was Rebul Academy.  The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 25-2 first quarter lead and never looked back, defeating Rebul by a score of 72-10.  All Lady Rebels saw playing time in the victory.  Ronda Black and Rylee Kate Woodard led all scorers with 14 points each.  Black added 5 assists, 2 steals, and a rebound, while Woodard added 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.  Kenley Loftin added another double-double for the year, this time with points and steals.  Kenley had 12 points and 12 steals, along with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocked shots. Jessie Kate Cobb added 4 points and 4 rebounds. Pacey Lindsey had 4 points, 3 steals, 2 assists, and 1 rebound. Emma Clemons and Emily Cason added 4 points each. Jadyn King, Mary Claire Jones, Georgia Carlisle, Renee Prosperie, Hanna Catherine Huddleston, Kacie Harper, and Gracie Stephens added 2 points each, while Madison Chamberlin added an assist and a steal.

The Lady Rebels faced a little more competition on Friday night as the faced the Franklin Lady Cougars for the third time this year.  The Lady Rebels came out on top by a score of 58-43.  Junior Kenley Loftin came out on fire for the Lady Rebels with 19 first half points, including 3 3- pointers.  She finished the game with her varsity career high of 24 points and added 13 rebounds for another double-double.  She also had 2 steals and an assist. Sophomore Jessie Kate Cobb was dominant in the paint with a double-double of her own.  She had 10 points, 10 rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Rylee Kate Woodard added 9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Ronda Black had 7 points, 7 assists, 7 steals, and 2 rebounds.  Pacey Lindsey added 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist.  Mary Claire Jones rounded out the scoring with 2 points. She also had 2 rebounds and a steal.

Saturday’s game was a match-up between the two #1 seeds in the tournament-the Riverdale Lady Rebels and the WCCA Lady Rams. The Lady Rebels came out on top by a score of 44-36 and brought the blue championship trophy home to East Point. Kenley Loftin added another double-double to her season, scoring 19 points and having 11 rebounds.  She also had 5 steals and played the entire championship game with zero turnovers. 7th grader Mary Claire Jones stepped up big under pressure.  Mary Claire had 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal. Ronda Black added 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Rylee Kate Woodard had 4 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Jessie Kate Cobb added 5 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Pacey Lindsey had 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

Senior Ronda Black, juniors Kenley Loftin and Rylee Kate Woodard, and sophomore Jessie Kate Cobb were named to the South A All-Tournament team.  The Class A tournament, which will be held at Rebul Academy in Learned, MS, has been postponed until next week due to winter storms.  The Lady Rebels enter the tournament as a #1 seed and will play #4 SIA on Monday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m. Good luck to the Lady Rebels in the Class A Tournament!
