There are moments in sports that take your breath away. Bulldog fans got to enjoy one of those moments Tuesday night. The Bulldogs defeated Many at the buzzer, just seconds after Many hit a three-point shot to dash their hopes of victory. Final score Red River 49 and Many 46.
Remember several weeks ago when Many’s boys and girls teams handed Red River stunning defeats in two games played at Many High? Tuesday night Many came to the Dawg Pound but went home empty. Their highly rated Tigers and Lady Tigers had met their match.
The Lady Bulldogs started things off. They lead all the way then came on strong in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Tigers mounted a comeback in the 4th quarter but could not surmount the Lady Bulldogs’ lead. Final score 57 to 52.
In the boys game both teams started out strong but in the second quarter Many grabbed the lead. After half, the Bulldogs started an uphill climb and withy just seconds left had tied the game at 43-43. Many’s ball. The Tigers got the ball deep on the attacking left and scored an amazing 3-pointer to take a 46-43 lead.
With 3.88 seconds on the clock, Marcus Brewer brought it in under the Red River goal. Marcus broke down court and got the ball back. Time running out. A 30-foot toss arched up and into the net on the far end of the court at the buzzer. Referee signaled good. Red River defeated Many 49-46.
Tonight Red River is at Lakeview for boys and girls games beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets to the game sold out a few days ago and none will be sold at the door. Journal Sports will stream the games live beginning about 5:55. Here is the link to the broadcast:
Riverdale Academy is playing in the South A regional tournament held at Tallulah Academy in Tallulah. Today are the semi-final games for boys and girls.
The Rebels and Lady Rebels scored two big wins on Tuesday. The Lady Rebels ran away from Rebul Academy’s Raiders 72 to 10. Then the Rebels soundly defeated Mt. Salus 75 to 38.
Both teams advanced to the semi-finals and play today. The Lady Rebels will play Franklin Academy at 4:30, while the Rebels will take on Tensas Academy at 7:30.
