ETC… for Friday, February 12th

Valentine’s Day is Sunday. What are you getting for your sweetheart?  Shop today or tomorrow or you will miss the opportunity.

Northwestern State University will be closed Monday, Feb. 15 for Mardi Gras.  Administrative offices will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Classes will resume on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at noon.

Gov. John Bel Edwards on Wednesday signed a proclamation extending Louisiana’s modified Phase 2 guidelines, which include sensible restrictions meant to slow the spread of COVID-19 like a statewide mask mandate, for another 21 days. The new order is set to expire on March 3, 2021.  Hospitalizations and test positivity have improved in Louisiana, but cases are still very high and more people are in the hospital today than were last summer. January was the second deadliest month of the pandemic in Louisiana and, with Mardi Gras next week, Louisiana cannot afford to relax restrictions.

UPDATE: REOPENED – I-49 North segment (northbound & southbound) in Caddo Parish.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that the I-49 North segment between the I-220 interchange in Shreveport and Mira Myrtis Road in north Caddo Parish has been REOPENED effective immediately.

This affects both directions of travel (northbound and southbound lanes).

Do you recall the ice storm that blew through this area in February 1997.  Many areas were without power for more than a week.  If you are unprepared for the cold weather on the way, today is the day to go shopping for supplies.
