The Winnfield Tigers came to town Friday night for basketball games with the Bulldogs. They went away empty. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Tigerettes 55 to 43 while the Bulldogs shut down the Tigers 57 to 42.
In the girls game, Winnfield came out strong and lead by 3 points at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs evened things up 20-20 at half. In the third period Red River gained the momentum and outpaced the Tigerettes to finish with a twelve point lead.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Jaedyn French-Solton tore it up with 25 points. She hit 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. Other scores came from Kaitlyn Antilley with 14, Erica Babers with 7, Cierra Smith scored 6, and Elizabeth Hughes and Jariyah Hamilton put in two each.
Same story with the boys game, Winnfield starting strong then fading in the second quarter. The Bulldogs started hitting in the second quarter and enjoyed a twelve point halftime lead. The Tigers came out strong in the second half but couldn’t keep it up. When the Dawgs took command of the game they kept scoring and widening the margin to claim a 55-42 victory.
Top point makers for the Bulldogs were Marcus Brewer, Antron Williams, and D’Evan McDonald. They= also turned in outstanding performances rebounding. Brewer put up 19 points to lead the attack, and he was 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Williams scored 14 and McDonald put up 13 points. Other players contributing were Trey Smith with 7 points and Brandon Harris and Stanley Sibley scoring two each.
