The Riverdale Rebels and Lady Rebels had a long week of travel last week as they played road games at Tallulah and Prairie View Academy. Sickness has plagued both the players and coaching staff, but hopefully going into this week everyone will be healthy again. On January 26, the teams traveled to Tallulah. The JV girls lost by a score of 34-20. Mary Claire Jones led the team in scoring with 10 points. She also had 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 1 assist. Madison Chamberlin had 4 points and led in rebounding with 7 boards. Jadyn King had 2 points and 6 rebounds. Georgia Carlisle and Hanna Catherine Huddleston rounded out the scoring with 2 points each. The JV boys had a much easier time and defeated the Trojans 40-18. Ryder Huddleston led all scorers with 23 points. He also had 6 rebounds. Kyle Guillory added 8 points and pulled down 7 boards. Ashton Almond had 3 points. Aston Hester, Colton Caskey, and Hayden Hillman rounded out the scoring with 2 points each. Hillman also had 7 rebounds. The Lady Rebels had a tough first district loss at Tallulah with the Lady Trojans coming out on top 46-42. Rylee Kate Woodard led all scorers with 13 points. She also had 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Kenley Loftin had another double-double for the season, scoring 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. She also had 2 steals. Pacey Lindsey also scored 11 points for the Lady Rebels. She grabbed 8 rebounds, had 5 steals, and had 2 assists. Jessie Kate Cobb had 6 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. Mary Claire Jones had 3 points and 2 rebounds. Ronda Black scored 1 point, had 4 assists, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds. The varsity boys, who had to play another game without senior Parker Almond, managed to step up and take home the 59-50 win over the Trojans. Ty Jones stepped up big and scored 28 points. He also had 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Paul Messenger had a big night for the Rebels with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist. Caden Long also scored in double figures with 12 points. Reagan Huddleston had 3 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. Denver Williams rounded out the scoring with 2 points and was high rebounder with 9 boards.
On January 28 the Rebels were on the road again-this time to Prairie View Academy. The JV Lady Rebels got the win against PVA by a score of 29-20. Mary Claire Jones once again scored 10 points. She also had 6 steals, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Makayla Pickett added 7 points and pulled down 4 rebounds. Jadyn King scored 6 points and was high rebounder with 7 boards. She also had 6 steals, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot. Emily Cason had 3 points and 6 rebounds. Georgia Carlisle had 2 points and Charity Williamson added a free throw to round out the scoring. The JV boys had an easy time with the Spartans, winning by a score of 44-9. Aston Hester was on fire for the Rebels. He had 18 points on the night. He also had 7 rebounds, 6 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Ryder Huddleston had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Ryder also had 3 steals. Kyle Guillory also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle also had 4 steals. Hayden Hillman scored 4 points and pulled down 7 boards. The Lady Rebels had another tough night and lost their second district game to the Lady Spartans by a score of 48-38. Ronda Black led in scoring with 13 points. She also had 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Kenley Loftin added another double-double to her impressive season resume by scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 boards. Kenley also had 5 steals. Rylee Kate Woodard added 7 points and had 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. Jessie Kate Cobb had 5 points, pulled down 9 rebounds, had 1 assist, and 1 steal. Mary Claire Jones added 3 points. The Rebels defeated the Spartans 46-34 to remain undefeated in district play. Ty Jones led the Rebels in scoring with 15 points. He also had 3 steals, 2 assists, and a rebound. Caden Long added 11 points and had 3 rebounds. In his first game back, Parker Almond had 4 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Denver Williams and Garrett Wilhite added 4 points each. Paul Messenger and Reagan Huddleston had 3 points each. Noah Wren rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
This week the Rebels travel to Franklin Academy on February 1 and Providence Classical Academy on February 2. On Wednesday, February 3, Riverdale will host the Franklin Cougars for basketball senior night. Senior night presentations will begin at 4:45, followed by varsity girls and varsity boys final district games. Next week the teams will travel to Tallulah for the South A Tournament.
