On January 7, the Riverdale Rebels went up against the Tensas Chiefs with all teams pulling out a win. The JV Girls had a close game and ended up winning with a score of 38-32. Hanna Huddleston was the leading scorer with 10 points. In her first game back from a broken arm injury in early December, Mary Claire Jones put 9 points on the board. She also had 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Makayla Pickett played an excellent game and had 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal. Madison Chamberlin also had an excellent game, scoring 4 points, being the leading rebounder with 11 boards and also having 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocked shots. Jadyn King had 4 points and 5 rebounds. Emily Cason had 2 points.
The JV boys game had a final score of 57-21 in favor of Riverdale. Ryder Huddleston had a great game and was the top scorer with 20 points. Hayden Hillman and Ryder were tied for top rebounder, both having 5 boards. Hillman also added 6 points. Kyle Guillory scored 16 points and had 6 steals. Aston Hester added 8 points and also had 6 steals. Will Jones had 4 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Ashton Almond added 3 points to round out the scoring for Riverdale.
The varsity girls had a good game, winning by a score of 58-11. Ronda Black was leading scorer with 16 points. She also had 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Rylee Kate Woodard was close behind having 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Kenley Loftin added 10 points and was top rebounder with 8 boards. She also had 5 steals. Jessie Kate Cobb scored 10 points and had 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 blocked shot. Mary Claire Jones had 4 points, Pacey Lindsey had 3 points, and Renee Prosperie and Georgia Carlisle had 2 points each.
The varsity boys won by a score of 68-45. Ty Jones was the leading scorer with 24 points. He also had 6 rebounds, 6 steals, and 5 assists. Parker Almond added 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist. Denver Williams had 12 points and was the leading rebounder with 7 boards. Reagan Huddleston had 4 points and 6 rebounds, and Noah Wren added 4 points. Caden Long had 3 points, and Jake Messenger rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
On Friday, January 8, the Rebels traveled to Tallulah Academy to take on the Trojans. In a hard- fought game, the JV Girls came up short in overtime with a final score of 23-22. With less than a minute remaining in regulation, Jadyn King was fouled and went to the free throw line. She made both of her free throws to tie the game and send it into overtime. Jadyn finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Mary Claire Jones added 7 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Madison Chamberlin added 3 points and was once again the leading rebounder with 7 boards. She also had 5 steals and 4 blocked shots. Georgia Carlisle added 2 points and had 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
The JV boys game was a Rebel victory with Riverdale winning by a score of 44-19 and all players seeing action in the game. Kyle Guillory had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He also had 2 assists and 3 steals. Ryder Huddleston also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. He also had 2 assists and 2 steals. Ashton Almond had 8 points, and Hayden Hillman pulled down 6 rebounds. Aston Hester added 5 points and had 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Will Jones had 3 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, and 1 assist. Colton Caskey added 2 points. Logan Gryder pulled down 3 rebounds, Shea Nettles pulled down 2, and Tanner Carlisle had 1 rebound.
The varsity girls fought hard and came out with a 44-35 win over the Lady Trojans. Kenley Loftin was the leading scorer with 15 points. She also had 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Ronda Black added 11 points along with 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Rylee Kate Woodard had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Jessie Kate Cobb had 5 points and pulled down an outstanding 11 rebounds. Mary Claire Jones added 3 points.
The varsity boys’ game was a blow out, with the Rebels winning 65-20 and all players seeing action in the game. Parker Almond was the leading scorer with 18 points. He also had 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist. Ty Jones added 12 points and had 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Caden Long added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Reagan Huddleston had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Paul Messenger had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jace Wilhite added a 3-pointer. Denver Williams and Mason Murray added 2 points each, and Brennan Edie added a free throw for the Rebels.
The Rebels have two home games this week. They play PVA Tuesday, with the JV girls game beginning at 4:00. On Friday, the Rebels play Central with the JV girls beginning at 5:00. There will not be a varsity girls’ game because Central does not have a varsity girls team this year. Come out and support the Rebels or tune in to Journal sports for varsity action. Go Rebels!
