On Thursday, August 6, Riverdale Academy hosted its annual Ice Cream Social. The Ice Cream Social is hosted on the day before school so students and parents can meet the teachers. At 5:30 new principal Danny Rester talked to the new families at Riverdale. Whenever he was finished, the varsity cheerleaders performed for them. At 6:00 the cheerleaders performed for the families who were returning to Riverdale.
Ice cream was served from the school cafeteria. Meanwhile, across the campus, there were many tables set up for various things such as picking up t-shirts, signing up for the Rebel Club, paying lunch money, and gathering information for various sports at Riverdale. Cheerleaders were spread around campus doing things such as helping limit the number of people in one place at a time, helping direct parents where to go, helping sign up mini cheerleaders, getting their measurements for uniforms, and signing up pep squad members.
Teachers were in their classrooms greeting returning students and meeting new ones. The teachers were answering questions and handing out schedules and other information. Another important thing that teachers were doing this year was getting information from parents if, due to Covid-19, the school has to close and go back to virtual learning. Excitement filled the campus as students were reunited with their friends after unexpectantly not being able to return to school last year, and parents were ready to get back into a school routine.
The Ice Cream Social got students excited to return to school with their friends and teachers the following day. The Riverdale Family is ready to make the next 50 years of Riverdale Academy as great as the first 50 years were.
